Rainy Day in Eugene: Museums, the Hult Center and Indoor Fun

Rain is part of the deal in Eugene from November through spring, and locals don't let it slow them down. The city has a great lineup of museums, theaters and cozy indoor stops, most of them a short drive or bus ride from downtown. Here is how to fill a gray day, with hours current as of early November 2026.

Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

The JSMA sits on the west side of the University of Oregon campus, next to the Knight Library at 1430 Johnson Lane. Its galleries cover Asian, American and Pacific Northwest art, with rotating exhibitions all year.

The museum lists holiday closures this season, including Nov. 11, Nov. 26 and 27, and Dec. 23 through Jan. 1, so check jsma.uoregon.edu before you go.

Eugene Science Center (formerly the Science Factory)

Next to Autzen Stadium at 2300 Leo Harris Parkway, the Eugene Science Center has hands-on exhibits and an 85-seat planetarium with full-dome shows. It is a great pick for families.

See the current show calendar at eugenesciencecenter.org.

A show at the Hult Center

The Hult Center for the Performing Arts, at 7th and Willamette downtown, is home to the Eugene Symphony, Eugene Ballet and touring Broadway shows. A matinee or evening show is the classic rainy-day plan.

Upcoming this season are Water for Elephants (Nov. 6 to 8), Eugene Symphony concerts, The Nutcracker Remixed (Nov. 20 to 22) and Eugene Ballet's The Nutcracker (Dec. 19 to 24). Tickets are sold online any time at hultcenter.org. The ticket office is open Tuesday through Friday noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday noon to 3 p.m., or call 541-682-5000.
